Quick answer
In the Spirit, John sees a throne in heaven with One seated on it. God's sovereign reign is the central, controlling reality of the whole book.
Overview
The throne, mentioned dozens of times in Revelation, is the visual center of the vision and of John's theology. God is not described directly but by His enthroned presence, stressing His transcendence and majesty. For churches facing persecution, the message is clear and steadying: God truly reigns over all.
