Quick answer

If not redeemed earlier, the servant and his children went free at the Jubilee. The Jubilee guaranteed eventual liberation for all.

Overview

Even if no kinsman redeemed him and he could not buy himself back, the Jubilee secured his release along with his family. No bondage could outlast that appointed year. The Jubilee thus stands as a great symbol of release and restoration, fulfilled when Christ proclaims liberty to the captives (Luke 4:18-21).

Christ at the center

Every sacrifice, every priest, and every day of atonement points beyond itself to the one perfect offering and the great High Priest who, by his own blood, makes the unclean holy once for all.

How Leviticus 25:54 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
