Quick answer

Righteousness and strength are found in Yahweh alone; those who rage against him will be put to shame. True standing comes only from God.

Overview

People will confess that the only source of righteousness and strength is the Lord. Those who set themselves against him end in disgrace. This anticipates the gospel truth that our righteousness is found not in ourselves but received from God in Christ, while opposition to him proves futile.

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 45:24 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
