Quick answer

God confirms His servants' words and fulfills His messengers' counsel, promising Jerusalem and Judah's cities will be rebuilt. It assures that God's prophetic word will surely come to pass.

Overview

In contrast to false diviners, God establishes the words of His true prophets. He specifically pledges the restoration of Jerusalem after exile. This certainty of God performing His word undergirds confidence in all His promises, which are fulfilled and confirmed in Christ.

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 44:26 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
