Quick answer

Moses recounted all God's words and laws, and the people unanimously pledged to obey. The covenant is entered by hearing and consenting to God's word.

Overview

Before the covenant is ratified, the people are fully informed and respond with one voice, 'All the words which Yahweh has spoken will we do.' This shows that covenant relationship rests on God's revealed word and a willing response. Their sincere vow, however, would soon be broken, exposing the heart's inability to keep the law. The episode underscores the need for a new covenant written on the heart, fulfilled in Christ.

Christ at the center

The Passover lamb whose blood turns away death, the exodus through the sea, the manna, the rock, and the tabernacle where God dwells with his people all foreshadow Jesus — our Passover, our redemption, the bread from heaven, and God-with-us in the flesh.

How Exodus 24:3 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
