Quick answer

By Jesus everyone who believes is justified from everything the law of Moses could not justify. Faith in Christ brings the righteousness the law could not give.

Overview

This verse strikingly anticipates Paul's later epistles: justification, being declared righteous, comes through faith in Christ, not by the works of the law. The law could expose sin but never free from it; only Jesus can. Here, early in his ministry, Paul proclaims the doctrine of justification by faith that lies at the core of the gospel.

Christ at the center

Acts is the risen Christ continuing his work by the Spirit through the church, as the apostles preach that there is salvation in no other name under heaven.

How Acts 13:39 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
