Quick answer

God promised David a son who would be a man of peace, named Solomon, to whom He would give rest from enemies. This son would build the temple.

Overview

The LORD foretold Solomon's birth, his name (related to peace, shalom), and the rest his reign would enjoy. This promise echoes the covenant of 2 Samuel 7 and frames Solomon as a peaceable king fit to build God's house. Solomon's reign of peace and temple-building dimly anticipates the greater Son of David, Jesus, who secures eternal peace for His people.
