God walks with Adam in the garden; he tents among Israel in the tabernacle; his glory fills the temple; then "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" — Immanuel, God with us; he pours out his Spirit to indwell his people; and the Bible closes with the promise, "Behold, the dwelling of God is with man."

    Walking in the garden

    Genesis 3:8

    Then the man and his wife heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the breeze of the day, and they hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

    God walks with humanity in Eden.

    A tent among them

    Exodus 25:8

    And they are to make a sanctuary for Me, so that I may dwell among them.

    "Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst."

    Glory fills the temple

    1 Kings 8:11

    so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.

    God's presence fills Solomon's temple.

    Immanuel

    Matthew 1:23

    “Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).

    The Word dwelt among us

    John 1:14

    The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

    Acts 2:4

    And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

    God comes to indwell his people at Pentecost.

    Revelation 21:3

    And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.
