Quick answer

God promises to walk among His people as their God, and they will be His people. This is the heart of the covenant relationship.

Overview

The intimate language of God walking among His people recalls Eden and looks ahead to its full restoration. 'I will be your God, and you will be my people' is the covenant formula repeated throughout Scripture. Paul applies it to the church (2 Corinthians 6:16), and Revelation 21 shows its final fulfillment in the new creation.

Christ at the center

Every sacrifice, every priest, and every day of atonement points beyond itself to the one perfect offering and the great High Priest who, by his own blood, makes the unclean holy once for all.

How Leviticus 26:12 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
