Jehoiakim defiantly slices and burns each portion of God's word, showing utter contempt for the Lord's warning. His act is the antithesis of his officials' fear and trembling. Yet burning the scroll cannot annul God's word, which will be rewritten and fulfilled, for Scripture cannot be destroyed by human rebellion.
