Quick answer
God commands his prophets to comfort his people. After warnings of judgment, the Lord opens a great message of consolation and hope.
Overview
With this tender double call to comfort, Isaiah pivots from judgment to the promise of restoration for God's people. The comfort flows from God himself, who has not abandoned those he disciplines. These words, later quoted in connection with John the Baptist, begin the movement of Isaiah toward the gospel of redemption fulfilled in Christ.
