Quick answer

Those who fear God and obey the Servant's voice are urged to trust the LORD even while walking in darkness.

Overview

The prophet calls God-fearers who heed the Servant to keep trusting God when they cannot see the way. Faith means relying on God's name in the dark, not on present light. This counsel finds its fullest object in Christ, the Servant whose voice is obeyed and in whom believers trust through every darkness (John 12:36; 2 Corinthians 5:7).

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 50:10 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
