Quick answer

The transformed wilderness will overflow with joy and beauty, and the people will behold God's glory.

Overview

The desert receives the splendor of Lebanon, Carmel, and Sharon, becoming a place of singing and abundant blossom where God's glory is seen. The promise is that restoration leads ultimately to seeing the Lord himself. This is fulfilled as God's glory is revealed in Christ, in whom his people behold the excellence of God (John 1:14; 2 Cor. 4:6).

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 35:2 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
