Quick answer

God will raise a banner and assemble the outcasts of Israel and Judah from the ends of the earth. The scattered people will be reunited.

Overview

The Lord lifts a 'banner for the nations' and gathers the dispersed 'from the four corners of the earth.' The reuniting of long-divided Israel and Judah signals a restored, undivided people of God. Ultimately this is realized in Christ, who gathers into one the scattered children of God (John 11:52).

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 11:12 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
