Quick answer
When tested, Abraham by faith offered up Isaac, even though Isaac was the son through whom the promises were to come. Faith obeys God even when his command seems to threaten his own promise.
Overview
Genesis 22 recounts God testing Abraham by commanding him to sacrifice Isaac, his "one and only son" of promise. The wonder of Abraham's faith is that he obeyed though Isaac was the very heir on whom God's covenant depended. His willingness to give up his beloved son foreshadows the Father who did not spare his own Son (Romans 8:32).
