Quick answer

The Philistines admit they clearly saw God was with Isaac and propose a covenant oath.

Overview

Abimelech's party confesses that the Lord's blessing on Isaac is unmistakable, motivating their desire for a binding agreement. Their testimony shows that God's favor on His people can be evident even to outsiders. This recognition echoes God's purpose that through Abraham's line the nations would be drawn to bless and be blessed.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
