Quick answer

God declares that He alone is God, who kills and makes alive, wounds and heals, and none can deliver from His hand. It matters because it is a foundational assertion of God's sole sovereignty over life and death.

Overview

This climactic declaration affirms absolute monotheism and God's total control over life, death, and deliverance. No power can rescue from His hand, and no rival god exists. This sovereign Lord who wounds and heals, kills and makes alive, ultimately reveals His saving power in Christ, who conquered death and gives life to all who believe.

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).
