Quick answer

They received the law given through angels yet failed to keep it. Their boast in the law is empty because of their disobedience.

Overview

Stephen concludes that, despite receiving the law ordained through angels (Galatians 3:19; Hebrews 2:2), they did not obey it. This refutes any claim that Stephen dishonored the law; rather, his accusers are the lawbreakers. The greatest violation is their rejection of the One the law and prophets foretold.

Christ at the center

Acts is the risen Christ continuing his work by the Spirit through the church, as the apostles preach that there is salvation in no other name under heaven.

How Acts 7:53 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
