Quick answer

Timothy returned with the good news of their faith, love, and warm affection for Paul. The report turned Paul's anxiety into joy.

Overview

Timothy's report brought "glad news" of the Thessalonians' faith and love and their longing to see Paul. Paul uses gospel language ("glad news") for this encouraging report, so dear was it to him. Mutual affection between the church and its founders shines through, showing the relational bonds the gospel creates.
