Quick answer

As Saul approaches Naioth, the Spirit of God comes on him too, and he prophesies all the way there.

Overview

Even the king himself is overtaken by the Spirit and made to prophesy, rendered powerless to harm David. God restrains Saul not by destroying him but by seizing him with prophetic ecstasy. The scene vividly shows that the Lord can disarm any foe and protect his servant by means no human strength can resist.

Christ at the center

The rise of the anointed king after Israel's failed first choice points to the true Anointed One (Messiah means 'anointed'), the shepherd-king after God's own heart from Bethlehem.

How 1 Samuel 19:23 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
