Quick answer

Believers themselves are guarded by God's power through faith until their salvation is fully revealed. God keeps his people secure to the very end.

Overview

Just as the inheritance is kept for believers, believers are kept for the inheritance—both sides guarded by God's power. This protection works 'through faith,' so divine preservation and persevering trust go together rather than against each other. The 'salvation ready to be revealed in the last time' points to the final consummation at Christ's return, when present rescue becomes complete and visible.
