Quick answer

Paul urges that "the time is short," so even those with wives should live with a certain holy detachment, not letting marriage become an all-consuming ultimate. The brevity of the age reorders every earthly attachment.

Overview

This begins a series of "as though not" exhortations (vv. 29-31). Paul is not commanding husbands to neglect their wives but calling all believers to hold earthly relationships loosely in light of the coming of Christ and the passing of this world. The shortness of time relativizes our attachments so that nothing temporal eclipses devotion to the Lord.
