Quick answer
Shem's descendants are introduced; from this line the chosen people and ultimately the Messiah will come.
Overview
Shem heads the line of promise, the Semitic peoples from whom Abraham and Israel descend (Genesis 10:22; 11:10). The Chronicler now turns toward the elect line that is his real focus. From Shem the genealogy will narrow to Abraham, Judah, and David, the channel through which God brings blessing to all nations in Christ.
