Quick answer

Many peoples from many cities will yet come to seek the Lord. God's restoration of Zion will draw the nations to Himself.

Overview

The vision widens from Judah's restoration to the ingathering of the nations to worship the Lord. This fulfills the prophetic hope that Zion would become a center of blessing for all peoples (Isaiah 2:2-3; Micah 4:1-2). It anticipates the gospel's gathering of the nations into the worship of the true God through Christ.

Christ at the center

The Branch who is both priest and king, the shepherd struck and the flock scattered, the king coming humble on a donkey, the one they pierced, the fountain opened for sin — Zechariah is dense with Christ.

How Zechariah 8:20 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
