Quick answer

Each of us will give an account of himself to God. Personal accountability to God should govern how we treat one another.

Overview

Paul draws the conclusion from the preceding verses: judgment is individual and Godward. Since I must answer for myself, my energy belongs on my own faithfulness rather than on condemning my brother. This verse both humbles and sobers, reminding believers that their lives are lived coram Deo, before the face of God, to whom final reckoning is owed.

Christ at the center

Paul unfolds the gospel in full: Christ our righteousness received by faith, the second Adam in whom many are made righteous, in whose death and resurrection we are buried and raised.
