Quick answer

To the overcomer Christ promises to share his throne, as he overcame and sat with the Father. It matters because faithful believers are promised to reign with the victorious Christ.

Overview

This climactic promise offers the highest reward: to sit with Christ on his throne. It is grounded in Christ's own victory and exaltation to the Father's throne. Believers' future reign is entirely dependent on, and patterned after, Christ's accomplished triumph, the fitting summit of all seven promises to the overcomers.

Christ at the center

Revelation ends the story with the slain-yet-standing Lamb who is worthy, the Lion of Judah, the Alpha and Omega, the returning King who makes all things new and dwells with his people forever.

How Revelation 3:21 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
