Quick answer

To Laodicea, Christ presents himself as the Amen, the faithful and true witness, and the head of God's creation. It matters because the trustworthy Lord confronts a self-deceived church.

Overview

"The Amen" and "Faithful and True Witness" stress Christ's reliability and truth, in contrast to Laodicea's self-deception. "Head of God's creation" affirms his sovereignty as the source and ruler of creation, not a created being. These titles set the stage for a searching rebuke.

Christ at the center

Revelation ends the story with the slain-yet-standing Lamb who is worthy, the Lion of Judah, the Alpha and Omega, the returning King who makes all things new and dwells with his people forever.

How Revelation 3:14 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
