Quick answer

In sharp contrast to the beast's mark, John sees the Lamb on Mount Zion with the 144,000 bearing God's name. The redeemed belong wholly and safely to God.

Overview

Against the dark chapter 13, the scene shifts to the victorious Lamb standing on Mount Zion, the place of God's salvation, surrounded by his sealed people. The Father's name written on their foreheads is the divine counterpart to the beast's mark, marking ownership and protection. The 144,000, understood by many as the full company of the redeemed, stand secure with Christ.

Christ at the center

Revelation ends the story with the slain-yet-standing Lamb who is worthy, the Lion of Judah, the Alpha and Omega, the returning King who makes all things new and dwells with his people forever.

How Revelation 14:1 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
