Quick answer

God struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the pride of their strength. It matters because this final plague broke Pharaoh's resistance.

Overview

The tenth and climactic plague was the death of every Egyptian firstborn (Exodus 12:29-30). The 'first fruits of their manhood' marked the nation's strength and future. This judgment, from which Israel was spared by the Passover lamb's blood, points forward to Christ our Passover, whose blood delivers His people from death.

Christ at the center

The Psalms are Christ's own prayer book and a gallery of his portraits — the suffering one of Psalm 22, the risen Lord of Psalm 16, the priest-king of Psalm 110, the Son to whom the nations are given.

How Psalms 105:36 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
