Quick answer

The Gershonites were also counted by their families and fathers' houses. The second clan's numbering is now recorded.

Overview

As with the Kohathites, the Gershonites were carefully tallied by household for their assigned duties. The orderly account leaves no clan unrepresented in the service of God. It reflects the thoroughness with which Israel obeyed the Lord's instructions for worship.

Christ at the center

In the wilderness Christ is the water from the rock, the bronze serpent lifted up that the dying might look and live (John 3:14), and the star and scepter that Balaam saw rising out of Jacob.
