Quick answer

Dan's camp was set on the north side, led by prince Ahiezer. The fourth division took its appointed station around the tabernacle.

Overview

The northern group of tribes, headed by Dan, formed the rear guard of the camp. Dan, a son of Jacob by Bilhah, here leads a major division, showing that the sons of the handmaids shared fully in the tribal inheritance. God's ordering of the camp embraced all the tribes without partiality.

Christ at the center

In the wilderness Christ is the water from the rock, the bronze serpent lifted up that the dying might look and live (John 3:14), and the star and scepter that Balaam saw rising out of Jacob.

How Numbers 2:25 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
