Quick answer

Nehemiah saw people working and trading on the Sabbath in Judah and warned them against it. It matters because the Sabbath, a sign of the covenant, was being openly profaned.

Overview

Nehemiah observed wine-pressing, hauling, and selling on the Sabbath, and testified against the violation. His vigilance shows that reform must address everyday obedience, not only temple matters. The Sabbath pointed to God's rest and ultimately to the rest found in Christ, who is Lord of the Sabbath and gives true rest to the weary.
