Quick answer

The high priest demands that Jesus answer the charges. He presses for a response to condemn Him.

Overview

Caiaphas stands and challenges Jesus to defend Himself against the testimony. His aggressive questioning reflects the determination to secure a conviction. Jesus's response, or rather His silence in the next verse, fulfills the portrait of the suffering servant who does not retaliate against false accusers.
