Quick answer

Jesus entered the boat, the wind ceased, and the disciples were utterly amazed. It confirms His authority over nature and deepens the disciples' wonder.

Overview

As soon as Jesus joined them, the storm immediately stilled, demonstrating His lordship over wind and sea. The disciples' astonishment shows they were grasping, however slowly, that Jesus was more than a teacher. Their amazement, though, was mixed with the dullness Mark exposes in the next verse.

Christ at the center

Mark drives urgently to the cross, showing Jesus the Son of God as the suffering Servant who 'came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'

How Mark 6:51 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
