Quick answer

God now warns that disobedience brings consequences if Israel refuses to listen and obey. Covenant unfaithfulness carries serious cost.

Overview

Here begins the section of covenant curses, the sober counterpart to the blessings. Refusal to listen and obey breaks the covenant relationship and invites judgment. These warnings reveal the seriousness of sin and God's holiness, and they magnify the grace of the gospel, in which Christ bears the covenant curse for His people (Galatians 3:13).

Christ at the center

Every sacrifice, every priest, and every day of atonement points beyond itself to the one perfect offering and the great High Priest who, by his own blood, makes the unclean holy once for all.

How Leviticus 26:14 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
