Quick answer
Like Sodom and Gomorrah, Babylon will be overthrown so that no one dwells there. Her judgment will be complete and final.
Overview
The chapter closes the section by comparing Babylon's fall to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the archetype of decisive divine judgment (Genesis 19:24-25). The emptied land confirms the totality of the LORD's verdict. It stands as a lasting warning that proud rebellion against God leads to utter ruin, and points to the final fall of 'Babylon the great' (Revelation 18:21).
