Quick answer

God tells His people not to fear, for He alone foretold these things and there is no other God or Rock. It assures believers there is no rival to the God who keeps His word.

Overview

Because God has reliably declared the future in advance, His people have no reason to be afraid. He affirms emphatically that He knows no other God or Rock besides Himself. This solid foundation of the only true God is the same Rock on which Christ builds His church.

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 44:8 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
