Quick answer

God challenges any rival to predict and order events as He has done since establishing His ancient people. It proves His unique deity by His power over history.

Overview

No other being can foretell the future or arrange history as God can. His proven ability to declare what is coming sets Him apart from all pretended gods. This sovereign foreknowledge undergirds confidence in God's promises, all of which find their yes and amen in Christ.

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 44:7 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
