Quick answer

The saved are called to thank God and proclaim his deeds among the nations. Redemption overflows into mission and witness.

Overview

Gratitude for salvation cannot stay private; it moves believers to 'declare his doings among the peoples' and exalt his name. Worship and witness belong together. This anticipates the church's calling to proclaim God's saving works to all nations in the name of the exalted Christ (Matt. 28:19; Acts 1:8).

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 12:4 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
