Quick answer

The angel grants Lot's request and agrees to spare the little city.

Overview

God accommodates Lot's plea, sparing the town for his sake. This shows how God's mercy can extend even to a place through the presence of one he is rescuing. It echoes the earlier theme that the righteous may bring preservation to others.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
