Quick answer

These are the families of Noah's sons, from whom the nations divided across the earth after the flood. The Table of Nations concludes.

Overview

The verse summarizes the whole Table, affirming that all the nations of the earth descend from Noah's sons. This grand survey establishes the unity and diversity of humanity under God's sovereign ordering. It sets the stage for Babel and for God's call of Abraham, through whom He purposes to bless all these very nations in Christ.

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
