Tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel have set up idols in their hearts and fallen into sin, and then they go to a prophet asking for a message. So I, the Lord, will give them the kind of answer their great idolatry deserves.

Overview
Rather than ignoring them, God promises to respond in a way that fits their idolatry—exposing and judging it. To approach Him while clinging to idols invites a sobering reply, not the guidance they sought. The verse warns that God will not be manipulated by hypocritical worship.
