Quick answer

They have misled God's people by crying 'Peace' where there is no peace, like whitewashing a flimsy wall.

Overview

The false prophets offered reassurance of safety when judgment was looming, papering over deep cracks with cosmetic whitewash (cf. Jer. 6:14). Their 'peace' was a lie that left the people defenseless. True peace comes only through repentance and, ultimately, through Christ who is our peace (Eph. 2:14).
