Quick answer

Sacrificial blood must not be offered with leavened bread, and the fat of the feast must not be left overnight. God's worship must follow His holy instructions with care.

Overview

These regulations guarded the purity and proper handling of sacrifices, with leaven often symbolizing corruption and the fat reserved as God's portion. They taught reverence and exact obedience in approaching a holy God. The sacrificial system, with its careful demands, points to Christ, the unblemished and final sacrifice who perfectly fulfills all such offerings (Hebrews 9:14).

Christ at the center

The Passover lamb whose blood turns away death, the exodus through the sea, the manna, the rock, and the tabernacle where God dwells with his people all foreshadow Jesus — our Passover, our redemption, the bread from heaven, and God-with-us in the flesh.

How Exodus 23:18 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
