Quick answer

No prophet has since arisen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. Moses stands unmatched in his intimacy with God.

Overview

This closing tribute marks Moses as uniquely close to God, who spoke with him "face to face" (Ex. 33:11). Yet the very statement that no prophet "like Moses" had yet arisen points forward to the promised prophet like Moses whom Israel was to await (Deut. 18:15). The New Testament identifies that greater Prophet as Jesus, who surpasses Moses as the Son over God's house (Heb. 3:3-6).

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).

How Deuteronomy 34:10 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
