Quick answer

Abstaining from blood brings blessing to Israel and their children, as they do what is right before God. Obedience here is tied to covenant well-being.

Overview

Moses links the command about blood to the promise that it may go well with them and their descendants. Doing what is right in the LORD's eyes is the path of blessing under the covenant. This connection between obedience and life looks ahead to the gospel, where true and lasting blessing comes through the obedience of Christ credited to his people.

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).
