Quick answer

If Israel diligently keeps these commands, loving God, walking in His ways, and clinging to Him, blessing follows. Wholehearted devotion is the path to God's promised help.

Overview

Moses restates the call to love, obey, and cling to God as the condition for conquest. To cleave to the Lord is to hold fast in loyal love. This persevering attachment to God is the believer's calling too, sustained by union with Christ, to whom we cling by faith.

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).
