Quick answer

After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off with nothing, and the city and sanctuary will be destroyed. The Messiah's death and Jerusalem's ruin are foretold.

Overview

Gabriel foretells that the Anointed One will be cut off and have nothing, followed by the destruction of the city and sanctuary by the people of a coming prince. Christians have historically seen the cutting off of the Anointed fulfilled in the crucifixion of Christ, and the destruction in the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70. Interpreters differ on details, but the prophecy remarkably foretells the Messiah's atoning death and the judgment that follows the nation's rejection of Him.
