Quick answer

God raised up prophets and Nazirites among them as gifts of spiritual guidance and devotion. He challenges Israel to admit this is undeniably true.

Overview

Beyond material blessings, God gave Israel prophets to speak his word and Nazirites set apart in holiness as living testimonies. These were tokens of his ongoing care for their spiritual life. The rhetorical question presses Israel to acknowledge God's goodness. Rejecting such gifts is rejecting God himself, who supremely sends his Son as Prophet and the holy One.

Christ at the center

Amid judgment on injustice, Amos promises the raising up of David's fallen tent — read by James in Acts 15 as the ingathering of the nations into the kingdom of the risen Christ.

How Amos 2:11 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
