Quick answer

Israel is subdued and Judah prevails because they relied on the LORD, the God of their fathers. Reliance on God is the explicit cause of victory.

Overview

The Chronicler states the lesson plainly: Judah prevailed 'because they relied on the LORD.' Trust in God, not superior strength, was the secret of their success. This verse crystallizes a central biblical truth, that those who lean on the LORD will be upheld, fulfilled supremely in the salvation that comes by faith in Christ.
